When is a house not a home?
I enjoy a challenge and re-modelling tired houses is my passion. This 1960’s ex-council house is in need of some TLC and I intend to give it just that to breathe some new life and energy back into it. The property needs a new family to live and play in it, it has worked hard and now needs some time and attention. First I need to do a little bit of architectural restructuring to help it fulfil its potential at becoming a new home for modern living.
Spending money on any property has to provide benefits, either by adding monetary value or as better space for the inhabitants to use efficiently.
Modern families like a downstairs W.C essential for children, visitors and ageing parents. This saves intrusive visits to the 1st floor bedroom space.
A utility room to hide all the laundry and store all the cleaning products and paraphernalia, And a pantry. This something I am bringing back to all my renovations where possible. Once a staple of the kitchen, they became obsolete and removed in order to create sleek kitchen designs. This , I feel was a mistake. We all know that food items that are not in everyday use, disappear to the back of the cupboard never to be seen again. A pantry allows you to store items and see them at a glance, easily accessible and organised. The added effect for your kitchen is less wall units. Making the space appear less cluttered.
Do I need planning?
No.
Will I need a Structural Engineer?
Yes.
How much will this cost?
Approx £40,000.00 - This includes the facelift to the front and rear of the property, fitted wardrobes in the bedrooms and a full re-wire.
